This fall I decided I wasn't going to take sessions where I wouldn't make the photos I wanted to make.  Too often I've been taking sessions where I'm convinced to shoot at times where the light isn't ideal or locations I don't recommend, and then end up making photos that aren't what makes me the happiest (and frankly not my best work as a result).   Add in a bit of pandemic chaos and my kids schedules and I haven't been shooting clients at all.  

This family however was on board for my rules and schedule and I'm so happy they were!  I think I got some great ones.  Listen folks.  I know you have deadlines of when you want photos done and it's not convenient to get up early or move dinnertime to make photos at a certain time ...but there's a reason you picked the photographer for their work...listen to them! 

My sessions have play breaks and documentary type photos, but I also make an effort to get everyone looking and (fingers crossed) smiling!  The in between photos are beautiful and I love them so much,  but I'd be lying if I didn't want everyone looking at the camera at least once for my own family pics... so that's how I model my sessions.  I like having a mix of both and while maybe you don't care for the everyone looking, I can tell you your mom or grandma will be sure to point out that not everyone is looking or smiling if you don't have at least one haha!   So here's some from my last session.  Everyone looking, some laughing and some fun in between.
